Message for the season of ADVENT 2024

Advent marks the beginning of the church year in the Christian liturgical calendar and is a time of preparation for the celebration of Christmas. Traditionally observed over four weeks, Advent invites us to reflect on the themes of HOPE, PEACE, JOY and LOVE, each associated with specific Sundays and represented by candles on the advent wreath, a circle of light that marks our days of preparation for Christ’s advent. The circle reminds us of God’s unending love, the eternal life He makes possible and the eternity of God.
On December 1, the first Sunday of Advent, we light the candle of HOPE, celebrating the light of Christ breaking into the world and the hope that God will fulfill His promises and that Jesus is our hope. The second candle of PEACE  symbolizes not only the tranquility that comes from faith but is also a call to embody peace in a world often filled with strife. The third candle of JOY is pink and represents the joy that comes through Jesus’ arrival and the nearness of the Lord. With the lighting of this candle, the light has won over the darkness. It also reflects the joy of Christ coming to earth and the salvation He has gifted us. The fourth candle of LOVE is meant to remind us of the love that God has for us and the love we have for our neighbors as we prepare our hearts for the coming of the Savior. Each candle is an invitation to share the meaning of its light with the world. We thank God for the HOPE he gives us, for the PEACE he bestows on us, for the JOY he pours into our hearts, and for the LOVE that redeems us and shows us the way.
This time of Advent is a time of reflection on how prepared and ready we are for the Lord’s return, and a time to share the Light of Jesus with the world. Have a blessed Advent.
